do you have a masthead or fractional rig? on a masthead rig tightening the backstay will tighten the headstay and less so with a fractional rig.

I hope that you mean the roller furler has a solid stainless flat bar attached to a double jaw toggle, then to the deck fitting for a bottom termination ...

What kind of furler, boat, and rig ?

You need to determine weather the forestay is loose, or the backstay. As the backstay was probably released to install the furler, either one could be out of adjustment.

Try telling whoever installed it for you , they should be able to help as well...
